Is this series for you?
Build a foundation or refresh your skills
This series is designed for scientists, researchers, and graduate students who are building their science communication skills or want a refresher on the fundamentals.
- You want practical ways to shape messages, stories, presentations, visuals, and activities.
- You want to practice with realistic scenarios and begin applying the ideas to your own work.
- You have had some experience communicating science but little structured training or feedback.
What you'll practice
Five workshops. Skills you can use right away.
01
SciComm foundations
Connect with different audiences, recognize and reduce jargon, and develop messages that make your science easier to understand.
02
Science storytelling
Explore why stories work, identify useful structures and elements, and practice shaping science into stories audiences can follow.
03
Presenting your work
Plan presentations that connect with audiences, use visuals effectively, and support a clear, engaging talk.
04
Multimedia communication
Explore multimedia formats, examine effective examples, and practice techniques for communicating science through different media.
05
Working with K-12 audiences
Consider what motivates students and teachers, adapt your science into age-appropriate messages, and develop activities that reinforce those messages.

Practice, not just instruction
Leave with progress, not just ideas for later
Each workshop combines focused instruction with guided activities, realistic scenarios, and constructive feedback.
After the instructional portion, participants are invited to stay for an optional 30 minutes of dedicated working time. Begin applying the session to your own communication project while the ideas are still fresh—and while the instructor is available for questions.
Your instructor
Led by Olivia Ambrogio, Ph.D.
Olivia brings 15 years of experience helping scientists communicate with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Before joining SCoPE as the Science Communication Learning and Engagement Manager, she led the American Geophysical Union's Sharing Science program for more than a decade. As a scientist herself, she knows that doing the research is only part of the job; helping others understand why it matters requires a different set of skills.

Voices from our community
SCoPE gave me great resources to understand how to tailor my messages to an audience, how to make scientific graphics, how to distill complex concepts...the list goes on.
