Affiliate bio

I hope to learn how to communicate science in a way that is both intelligible and exciting to communities without scientific expertise, and learn how to draw clear and concise connections between my research, and topics that are interesting to the public.
Kyle Davis
PhD Candidate
University of California Santa Cruz

Kyle Davis is a Ph.D. candidate in astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where his research focuses on time-domain astronomy, particularly the study of supernovae and the rare phenomenon of circumstellar interaction. Passionate about making complex science more accessible, Kyle aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge astrophysics and public understanding. Through mentoring first-generation and transfer students, he championed inclusion within the academic pipeline and is now expanding his efforts to reach communities not yet engaged with astronomy. Kyle also emphasizes the collective, global effort involved in his field - where international collaboration and rapid data sharing are key to understanding the fleeting lives of stars. He hopes to further sharpen his communication and outreach strategies through the SciAct Affiliate Program.
