Alice Luna is a fourth-year PhD student in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Chicago. She spends her days analyzing stellar spectra taken with the 6.5m telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. Her research focuses on the oldest and most metal-poor stars that live in ultra-faint dwarf galaxies, which are satellite galaxies around massive galaxies like the Milky Way. During long observing runs, her amazing collaborators — her cats — make sure she stays awake.
